After posting back-to-back solid performances, Bronny James will sit out the Los Angeles Lakers Summer League finale versus the Chicago Bulls. James is fresh off two straight performances scoring in double-figures after struggling offensively in his first two Summer League contests.

Fans on X reacted to the news of the team’s decision to rest the rookie guard.

“Load management in the Summer League is wild,” one fan joked.

“I’m calling in sick Monday.. Won’t be in boss.. Load management,” a third fan joked.

Other fans questioned the Lakers’ decision to rest Bronny James, arguing the rookie needs as much playing time as possible to develop.

“Rest??? He needs to maximize every opportunity to play and get a rhythm!” a second fan added.
“He needs as many reps as possible,” a third stated.

Bronny James showed flashes of offensive potential in last two Summer League games

Bronny James faced a large amount of criticism after his first three Summer League contests, shooting an abysmal 22.6% from the field, averaging just 4.3 points per game.

In his fourth game, Bronny appeared to see the game slow down, scoring 12 points and shooting 45% from the field and 40% from behind the arc in an 87-86 win over the Atlanta Hawks.

The next game, Bronny James continued his solid play, scoring 13 points and adding three assists and five rebounds. James shot 50% from the field and 33% from behind the arc in his most complete offensive performance of Summer League.

Bronny was drafted with strengths as a defender but was regarded as a project offensively. In his final two games, James displayed versatile offensive ability as a playmaker, isolation scorer and a spot-up threat.

James is expected to play on Los Angeles’ bench in 2024 and could carve out a consistent role if he can continue to develop offensively.
