Dyson Daniel’s contract might look a bit different once he starts playing more in the NBA. The first-round draft pick of the New Orleans Pelicans has played great to start his first season, and there's a good chance that he could be waiting for a big payday in a few seasons.
Daniel's contract is currently on the rookie scale, which means he's on a four-year $25,059,949 contract. However, with a possible extension waiting for him after this deal is done, we could be looking at a contract worth upwards of $100 million dollars.
With the way he's been playing, there's no denying that the Pelicans made the right pick. Not only is he an elite defender, but he's also showing the strengths on the offensive side, which New Orleans was hoping for. While the 3-point shot isn't fully there, he's shooting 35.2%, which was much better than many anticipated.
Daniels currently has the contract that he has because the New Orleans Pelicans were interested in what they saw in him.
“We watched him live at different points during the season,” Pelicans general manager Trajan Langdon said. “He started the season kind of slowly. The last half of the season he really looked good.
“He takes great pride in his defense. He sees the floor and passes the ball well. He has touch around the basket. He just has an innate feel for the game on both ends of the floor. He really wants to win, and that was really attractive.”

As everybody who follows the NBA knows, New Orleans continues to make big strides, which is impressive for what they're looking to do with some of their younger players. Daniels is going to be a major part of that, and while Dyson Daniel’s contract could get a bit tricky in the future, they don't have to worry about that for the next few years.
"That's huge," Daniels said. "They made a really big step last year making the playoffs and did well. Joining this team, I can help them do better in the playoffs. I'm a winner. I hate losing, so I'll do whatever they need and I can definitely step into some roles and contribute straight away.
"I am just so happy ... to be a Pelican, there's no better place. I can't wait to get to work. This is crazy."
The Pelicans (26-19) are a top team in the Western Conference and many believe they might even have enough to win an NBA championship. They currently sit in fourth place in the West.
