Donte DiVincenzo got traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves alongside Knicks star Julius Randle on Sep. 27 in exchange for the No. 1 pick from the 2015 NBA draft, Karl-Anthony Towns. Some users mocked the Italian American fans of the New York Knicks and DiVincenzo.

The mockery began in a discussion created by a fan about the effect of DiVincenzo's trade on Italian-American New Yorkers. However, the comment section of the post was soon flooded with roasts and teases.

One fan mocked the discussion with a sarcastic remark.

"Italians not making it about themselves challenge."

Other fans followed the lead and expressed similar sentiments.

"I guarantee he’s going to be the 2024-25 MIP (most Italian player)," one fan said.
"At least you still have Columbus Day," another fan said.
"But now you get all the Dominicans with their sancochos and mamajuanas and mofongos," one fan said.

Another fan brought in history to make a joke of the discussion.

"If we gave the Italians everything they wanted, the Axis powers would have won WWII," one fan said.
"My Italian husband is distraught. Had to cook the spaghetti whole just to cheer him up."

Donte DiVincenzo reportedly didn’t like the idea of playing a 'reduced role' at the Knicks

The trade involving the Knicks and the Timberwolves shocked many fans on both franchises ends. However, it has been reported that Donte DiVincenzo was not very satisfied with his future at the New York Knicks.

Ian Begley, a Knicks beat writer, said that DiVincenzo was not happy with playing a reduced role at the franchise.

"DiVincenzo was probably going to be coming off the bench this season," Begley said. "Bridges would likely have taken his spot in the starting lineup. I can say confidently that DiVincenzo didn’t exactly love the idea of playing fewer minutes/a reduced role this season. He was coming off of a career year and helped the team win a ton of games when it was shorthanded."

The New York Knicks had already stunned the world early this offseason when they signed Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets. With Bridges on the squad alongside Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart and Donte DiVincenzo, the Knicks had four former Villanova Wildcats.

Bridges, Brunson and DiVincenzo had won the 2018 NCAA Tournament together. However, there were concerns about DiVincenzo's minutes on the team. As Begley reported, Bridges would have taken his minutes and the former Warriors player did not like it, especially after having a great postseason run averaging 17.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.6 assists.
