Scotty Pippen Jr. has been terrific for Memphis

Scotty Pippen Jr. went undrafted in the 2022 NBA season but spent his rookie year with the Los Angeles Lakers. Despite his potential, the young point guard had limited opportunities with the 17-time NBA champions, appearing in only six games.

Last season, Pippen Jr. found more playing time with the Memphis Grizzlies, largely due to injuries to key players, including Ja Morant. The 23-year-old seized the opportunity, averaging 12.9 points on an impressive 49.3% shooting from the field, including 41.7% from beyond the arc, across 21 regular season games. He also contributed 4.7 assists and 1.7 steals per game.

Pippen Jr. carried this strong form into the 2024 NBA Summer League, where he emerged as one of the standout players, helping lead Memphis to a runner-up finish. Over six games, he averaged 21.5 points, 8.7 assists, and 3.3 steals per game, shooting 46.1% from the field, including 32% from 3-point range.

Pippen Jr. has excelled for the Grizzlies during the preseason, consistently showcasing his ability to maintain strong production over time. In four preseason games, the young guard has averaged 10.3 points per game, shooting 45.2% from the field, including 37.5% from deep, while also contributing 4.5 assists per game.

His consistent performance was a key factor in the Grizzlies offering him a guaranteed contract, securing his role as the team's backup point guard to superstar Ja Morant.
