Is Devin Booker playing tonight? (Source: Imagn)

Devin Booker will not play against the Denver Nuggets on Sunday night. The Phoenix Suns star is ruled out with an ankle injury. It isn't a long-term issue. The Suns are taking precautions with Booker as it's only preseason and want to avoid aggravating his injury.

Booker already has had an active summer after playing for Team USA, so his conditioning isn't that impacted. He remains active in practices, too. Phoenix has another game Thursday against the LA Lakers, so Booker could resume his preparations ahead of the opening night then instead of playing through an injury tonight against Denver.

He also missed Friday's 109-91 loss against the Detroit Pistons. The Suns are already dealing with a bevy of injuries to Jusuf Nurkic, Josh Okogie and Grayson Allen, so it makes sense for them to rest Booker for an exhibition game.

Devin Booker endures quiet start to preseason amid injury trouble

Devin Booker's preseason hasn't gone as planned. The star guard began with a 12-point performance against the Lakers in 14 minutes but shot only 4 of 12. However, he did make three of those from six long-range attempts. Booker's shooting numbers also didn't look promising in the second game.

He scored 10 points in 22 minutes against Detroit, shooting 4 of 13. He couldn't buy a basket from 3-point range, missing all his six attempts. Nevertheless, these games can be chalked off to adjustment periods, considering it's the preseason.

Devin Booker hasn't had many issues come the regular season. He has played at a borderline MVP-caliber level the past few years, and that's what the Suns will need again, along with his availability. It was a concern last year after Booker missed the initial few games with constant injuries to the ankle, foot and calf on the same leg.

The Suns got off to a slow start as Bradley Beal struggled with injury issues, too, leaving Kevin Durant alone to shoulder most of the burden.
