Tyler Herro raved about Victor Wembanyama's "length" during Tuesday's post-game interview. The Miami Heat welcomed the San Antonio Spurs at the Kaseya Center as part of both team's preseason schedules in preparation for the upcoming campaign.
Speaking to reporters after the Heat's 120-117 win, Herro was asked what it was like to play against the 7-foot-4 Wembanyama. He acknowledged that it takes a special kind of offense to get a shot up, mentioning his length, although he asked for a pause since it sounded humorous.
"Just trying different angles," Herro said. "Obviously, he makes you bring out different things to finish over him. His length is crazy, pause."
In the dying seconds of the second quarter, Tyler Herro drove to the basket and got past Chris Paul. Victor Wembanyama was waiting as the help defense and was ready to block Herro's shot. However, the Miami Heat guard was able to float his layup and hit a high part of the backboard for the tough finish.
Herro finished with 14 points and four assists on 6-for-13 shooting from the field. He played 23 minutes along with four other starters. Bam Adebayo led the way with 20 points, three rebounds, two assists, three steals and two blocks. Jaime Jaquez Jr. scored 15 points off the bench.
Meanwhile, Wembanyama struggled with just eight points and seven rebounds in 15 minutes of action. Jeremy Sochan had a team-high 18 points to go along with 11 rebounds on 9 for 13 shooting. Keldon Johnson and Malaki Branham each contributed 15 points off the bench.
Miami has two more preseason games scheduled before starting the season at home on Oct. 23 against the Orlando Magic. On the other hand, San Antonio has only one preseason game left and will begin the campaign on the road versus the Dallas Mavericks on Oct. 24.
Heat coach Erik Spoelstra anticipates big leap from Victor Wembanyama
Fans are not the only ones anticipating a big leap from Victor Wembanyama in his second season in the league. Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra is also expecting big things from the San Antonio Spurs superstar.
"It's a matter of time. He's an incredible talent, he's very dedicated as well," the coach said.
Spoelstra watched Wembanyama flourish for France in the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 20-year-old star almost led his nation to the gold medal, coming up short against Team USA in the final.
The reigning Rookie of the Year has also bulked up this offseason, making himself stronger and possibly harder to guard and defend. The addition of Chris Paul will also make things easier for him.
