LeBron James on Friday created history as he became the first male basketball player from the USA to bear the flag at the Olympic opening ceremony in Paris. LeBron and the USA contingent were met with rousing applause and cheers as soon as the basketball icon, along with tennis superstar Coco Gauff, led the country's athletes during the opening ceremony at Seine River.

The video of LeBron in a white blazer holding the American flag went instantly viral on social media. Hoops fans candidly reacted to the four-time NBA champion's iconic moment.

One of the X user dropped an interesting tweet and wondered whether LeBron James "is the greatest American of all time" after the Lakers superstar's latest achievement.

Scores of netizens reacted to the tweet and voiced their opinions. One of the X users included LeBron in the top 5 list.

"Top 5 let’s go LeMerica."
"Lebron is the greatest human of all time," commented another fan.

Another X user made a case for LeBron by pointing out one of his biggest achievements on the basketball court.

"yessirr. 3-1 comeback in the nba finals and now he le's leading America to victory? greatest of all time easily."

One of the fans put Steph Curry above LeBron.

"No curry is."

Another X user acknowledged LeBron for his basketball accolades but refrained from calling the four-time NBA MVP as the greatest American.

"The greatest American basketball player. The greatest American of all time is my man Abraham Lincoln."

One of the fans didn't agree with the timing of the question.

"You gotta wait 50-75 years to ask that question."

LeBron was overwhelmed after successfully carrying out the honor of being the USA's flag bearer. The two-time Olympic gold medalist candidly reflected on what it meant to lead the USA contingent at the opening ceremony.

"It's an honor, it goes all the way back to my hometown, to my communities, all of our communities," LeBron said.
"For myself and Coco, for us to be able to represent our country. It gives everyone so much hope where we come from."

LeBron James gunning for his 3rd Olympic gold medal

LeBron James is featuring in the Olympic Games for the fourth time in his career. The 39-year-old won a bronze medal at the 2004 Summer Games in Athens. In 2008 and 2012, LeBron won a gold medal with Team USA.

The 20-time NBA All-Star is gunning to end his Olympic career on a high by securing his third gold medal. Team USA boasts a star-studded roster and is expected to finish at the top of the podium. Having said that, Team USA is likely to face a stiff challenge from Serbia, France, Canada and Germany.

LeBron and Team USA will begin their campaign against Serbia on Sunday.
