The LA Lakers continued to add on the coaching staff of JJ Redick, hiring as an assistant Greg St. Jean, who was part of the team's championship squad in 2020 under Frank Vogel. Fans immediately reacted to the development, sharing their thoughts on social media.

St. Jean joins Redick's staff, which already includes Nate McMillan and Scott Brooks. Prior to returning to the Lakers, he served as assistant from 2021 to 2023 with the Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns.

Fans shared their varying takes on the Lakers' latest coaching hiring. Below are what some of them wrote on X/Twitter:

One fan welcomed St. Jean in his Lakers return but with a twist, writing:

"DONT KNOW WHO THIS IS BUT WELCOME CHAMP"
"Finally some Lakers news! Don't really know him though," shared one with the same sentiment.

There were comments, meanwhile, which commended the move, saying it would help JJ Redick in his coaching duties.

"Let's goo good move," a fan wrote.

It was seconded by another, who underscored the winning mindset of St. Jean, saying:

"As long as he got championship DNA I like it."

There were others, meanwhile, while agreeing to the move, still wanted the Lakers to add to their coaching crew. In particular, they want Rajon Rondo, who was also part of the 2020 Lakers champion team as a player.

"Actually great, would still love to get Rondo on board," a fan wrote.
"Where's rondo," another asked.

St. Jean is the son of former NBA coach Gary St. Jean, who handled the Sacramento Kings from 1992 to 1997, as well as the Golden State Warriors in the late 90s.

JJ Redick determined to do well as Lakers coach despite his inexperience

JJ Redick admits he is up against a huge challenge in coaching the LA Lakers in his first-ever gig as a bench tactician. But he is determined to succeed in it, banking on his experience as a player and willingness to learn from others.

He made this known after he was introduced as the new Lakers coach last month, saying:

"I have never coached in the NBA before. I don't know if you guys have heard that."

He added:

"It was really after I interviewed for the Toronto job last year that I knew I wanted to be a head coach in the NBA. And so the last year, I spent a lot of time talking to coaches, talking with GMs, picking their brains... I just felt like this is what I'm supposed to be doing."

JJ Redick, 39, signed a four-year deal to coach the Lakers. He replaced Darvin Ham, who coached the team in the previous two seasons.
