Karl-Anthony Towns was selected first overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves in 2015. Following his nine-season tenure with the team, he was traded to New York on Oct. 2. Numerous NBA fans criticized the Timberwolves after Towns expressed his desire to win a title for them on the "Club Shay Shay" podcast, just before he got dealt.

The trade was in exchange for Julius Randle, who played five seasons with the Knicks, and Donte DiVincenzo.

His comments were shared by NBACentral on X.

Several fans gave their reactions in the comments section.

"That org really did him dirty not going to lie."

Some argued that Towns should have received better treatment from the Timberwolves while others pointed out that the situation could have been handled differently.

"Business is business, but it's so wrong for a loyal player to be treated this way," a fan posted.
"They did him so dirty after he spent years on a mediocre franchise just to clear cap space," one fan posted.
"Man that was such an unnecessary trade. I think NBA does random trade each season to spice the offseason," another fan said.
"Both teams should've handled this trade a lot better. KAT and Randle were key parts of changing their respective teams and from what we know, neither were properly informed of the trade. Some guys deserve to be treated above the typical 'NBA business,'" one fan wrote.

The four-time NBA All-Star had his fair share of postseason runs in Minnesota but came up short of delivering a championship. It was a goal that he wanted to achieve with the team which ultimately came to an end.

Knicks coach talked about Karl-Anthony Towns' growth

Tom Thibodeau was the coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves from 2017 to 2019. During his tenure there, he was able to form a bond with Karl-Anthony Towns, which is expected to be strengthened further this upcoming season in New York.

Following the trade, Thibodeau talked about Towns' impressive growth over the years, especially in the NBA Playoffs.

"He's gotten a lot more experience," Thibodeau said to reporters on Thursday. "He's now been deep in the playoffs and knows what that's like. As much as you try to prepare for something like that, until you go through it, you don't fully understand what that is. His understanding is so much further along now than in his second year in the league."
"And his skill set is so unique that it fits well with everybody."

The Knicks are considered one of the favorites to win the title after adding Towns and Mikal Bridges. Despite coming up short in delivering a title to Minnesota, Towns now has the opportunity to help them secure their first title since 1973.

Last season, Karl-Anthony Towns averaged 21.8 points (50.4% shooting, including 41.6% from three-point range) and 8.3 rebounds per game.
