Danny Green, one of the best shooters of his generation, finished his NBA career after 15 years. NBA insider Shams Charania broke the news regarding the veteran shooter.
"After 15 NBA seasons, Danny Green says he is retiring. Green, who’s announcing the retirement on his podcast Thursday, is one of four players in NBA history to win championships with three different teams (2014 with Spurs, 2019 with Raptors, 2020 with Lakers)."
Danny Green's last team in the NBA was the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2023-24 NBA season. He was signed in September 2023 and waived on Nov. 1, which was the last time he set foot on an NBA court.
It was with the 76ers that many people thought his career ended. In 2022, during Game 6 of a Miami Heat-Philadelphia 76ers second-round series, Joel Embiid collided with Green's left knee, causing a torn ACL and LCL that ended his season.
He joined the Memphis Grizzlies on the 2022 draft night, then was traded to the Houston Rockets before signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers following a contract buyout with the Texan franchise.
Danny Green went from playing 5.8 minutes per game to becoming a 3x NBA champion
Danny Green went from worst to best in the NBA, starting with his first experience with the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was drafted as the No. 46 overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, playing 20 games in his rookie season, averaging 5.8 minutes per game.
He posted 2.0 points, 0.9 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 0.3 steals and 0.2 blocks per game while shooting 38.5% from the field, 27.3% from deep and 66.7% from the free-throw line.
Everything changed when he was waived by the Cavs and joined the San Antonio Spurs. Under Greg Popovich, Green became a solid 3-and-D player, helping his team reach back-to-back NBA Finals in 2013 and 2014, winning the championship in 2014 against the Big Three Miami Heat.
He would be traded alongside Kawhi Leonard to the Toronto Raptors in 2018, winning another championship at the end of that season. In the next campaign, as a member of the LA Lakers, Green captured his third and final championship in the infamous Orlando bubble.
After leaving the Lakers, he was unable to return to the Finals, but Green made a big mark on his teams.
