Netflix 'Starting 5': Teary-eyed Savannah James relives Bronny James' scary cardiac arrest

LeBron James' wife Savannah choked up when reliving the horrific news the family received about their son Bronny James' cardiac arrest last summer. The then 19-year-old collapsed during practice at USC and was rushed to the hospital where he recovered, and was eventually cleared for basketball in the months after the incident.

Speaking on Netflix's latest docuseries, 'Starting 5' the 38-year-old teared up when talking about that eventful day and how the James's coped.

"It was tough. I think we processed it differently. I think at the end of the day, it was just about us supporting each other, and just being super grateful for the outcome."

Soon after he was discharged, Bronny was required to undergo a procedure to fix his condition, which was then diagnosed as a congenital heart defect. In the stint with USC soon after, he averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 19.4 minutes per game. Bronny James later declared for the draft and was picked at No. 55 by the LA Lakers where he linked up with superstar father LeBron James.

Bronny James and LeBron James create NBA history as the first NBA father-son duo to play together

The LA Lakers duo of LeBron James and Bronny James created history when they took the floor for the preseason game vs the Phoenix Suns earlier this week. The pair took the floor for the Purple and Gold in the second quarter at the Acrisure Arena in Palm Desert, California and in the process became the first father-son duo in league history to play together.

That happened to be on Bronny's 20th birthday made it extra special and James said it meant everything to him postgame.

“For someone who didn’t have a dad growing up, to be able to have that influence on your kids. Then ultimately, to be able to work with your son, I think it’s one of the greatest things that a father could ever hope for or wish for.”

The Lakers have four more preseason games, with the next one on the road against the Milwaukee Bucks. The team will open up their NBA regular season on October 22 against the Minnesota Timberwolves at Crypto.com Arena where it remains to be seen if LeBron James and Bronny James will share the floor again.

'Starting 5' comprises of 10 episodes, all available for streaming on Netflix.
