Tommy Edman Contract: All you need to know about the second baseman’s future with the Dodgers and postseason impact

Los Angeles Dodgers utility man Tommy Edman was acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals in July this year and has already made a telling contribution in his first postseason in the MLB.

Ahead of the trade summer trade deadline, the LA side acquired the versatile 29-year-old in a three-team deal from St. Louis, along with Michael Kopech from the White Sox, while Chicago pitcher Erick Fedde and outfielder Tommy Pham went to the Cardinals.

Edman signed a two-year, $16.5 million contract with the Cardinals in January 2024, of which he will be paid $2,470,968 by the Los Angeles Dodgers as his adjusted salary for the season.

Tommy Edman was slected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2016 MLB Draft and went on to make his major league debut with them in 2019. Over the next three years, he played second base, third base and shortstop for them, becoming a favorite among fans.

In January this year, Edman signed a two-year extension worth $16.5 million with the Cardinals to avoid arbitration. However, after his trade to LA in July, the utility man will earn an adjusted salary of $2,470,968 from the Dodgers this year and a $9.5 million salary in 2025 and become eligible for free agency in 2026 (via Spotrac).

Edman has been one of the standout players for the Dodgers over their postseason run and put in another big performance in Game 4 of the NLCS against the Mets.

After a RBI double in the third, he added a two-run double in the eighth to secure a 10-2 victory for LA and put them one win away from the World Series. Over the postseason so far, Tommy Edman has an average of .324 with 11 hits, 8 RBI and 3 stolen bases.

Following their 10-2 win over the New York Mets in Game 4 of the NLCS, the Los Angeles Dodgers are now just one win away from the World Series. Having put in another standout performance in the postseason, Tommy Edman spoke to Ken Rosenthal after the game and lauded his team's mentality over the past few weeks.

When asked about the bullpen's impressive record over the playoffs, he said:

"They just got that bulldog mentality... This whole playoffs they've just been unbelievable. It's been fun to behind for sure."

Edman will now hope to continue his hot form over the upcoming games and end the season with his first MLB World Series title.
