Although the Washington Nationals missed out on the playoffs yet again, the rebuilding club has been doing a tremendous job of creating one of the most promising young teams in baseball. After winning the World Series in 2019, the club has yet to return to the postseason, however, according to one fan, it may not be too long before they are back playing October baseball.
In an interview with Matt Monagan of MLB.com, Nationals fan Bill Nye the Science Guy not only spoke highly of the team's budding young core but also dropped a bold statement that should have the fanbase hyped.
"World Series? World Series is 2026. Oh, yeah. Throw one more pitcher in there. Pitching beats hitting," Bill Nye said of the team's postseason future.
While this may seem like a crazy statement, Washington has been building up a strong roster that could soon be considered a contender in the National League. Even though 2026 might be wishful thinking, the Nats have been successful in rebuilding their roster which features bright young stars such as James Wood, Dylan Crews, and Jacob Young.
"He's a lanky, loping guy -- he's just a huge guy that runs," Bill Nye said of James Wood.
A true five-tool player, Wood is one of the most exciting young players in the MLB. In his first season in the majors, he racked up eight home runs, 39 RBIs, 14 stolen bases, and a .266 batting average over 74 games. If Nye's prediction is to come to fruition, Wood will undoubtedly play a huge role for the Washington Nationals.

Although 2026 might seem a tad early for the Washington Nationals to contend for their next World Series title, there have been rumors linking the club to one of their former superstars. Juan Soto is slated to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and even though the New York Yankees will likely be looking to sign him, the Nats could be potential suitors.
Insider Mark Feinsand of MLB.com believes that the Nationals could be in play for the four-time All-Star. Feinsand said that not only does Washington have the young pieces to help build around Soto, but they are also expected to have a sizable amount of money
