The Los Angeles Angels were handed a 7-0 thrashing by the Chicago White Sox (39-120) at Guaranteed Rate Field on Thursday evening. They were not only swept in the three-game series by the team with the worst record in the MLB this season but also set the mark for the most losses for a single season in franchise history.

Fans expressed their misery on social media, with a large section blaming owner Arte Moreno for the team's plight.

The Angels started a fresh new chapter in their history after Shohei Ohtani left in the offseason to join crosstown rival the Los Angeles Dodgers as a free agent. The front office also fired manager Phil Nevin and replaced him with former Texas Rangers skipper Ron Washington.

However, they made a terrible start to the 2024 season and were out of the playoff race even before the All-Star break. Earlier this week, the Angels barely avoided finishing with the first 100-loss season in franchise history. Nevertheless, they suffered their 96th defeat of the year on Thursday evening, going beyond the mark set in the 1968 and 1980 seasons.

Following the loss to the White Sox, fans voiced their anger on X.

"What a complete embarrassment," one fan remarked.
"Swept by the worst team," one fan posted.
"This is a disgrace," another fan commented.

Many fans directly pointed the finger at Moreno for another failed season.

"Arte should be so proud," one fan commented sarcastically.
"Arte doesn't give a s**t about the fans or about winning," said another fan.
"Arte, sell the team,” another fan posted.

The Angels have been in last place in the American League West since the start of May and currently have a 63-96 record for the season.

The Los Angeles Angels dropped out of playoff contention in the opening half of the season after having a 20-34 record by the end of May. They still showed some signs of improvement in the middle of the season and went 15-11 in June, their only month with a winning record in 2024.

However, they could not sustain the momentum for much longer and have regressed further from the point where they started the campaign. They have fallen to a 16-35 record since the beginning of August with a .313 winning percentage, which is their lowest mark for the entire campaign.
