Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani recently expressed his admiration for New York Mets' Francisco Lindor ahead of Game 3 of the National League Championship Serie as per USA Today's Bob Nightengale. Both players have had seasons deserving of an MVP, with Ohtani being the favorite and Lindor expected to be runner-up. However, Ohtani pointed out that their regular season is over (via ClutchPoints.com):

"What we did in the regular season is over and what matters is how we produce, what we produce during the postseason," Ohtani said through his interpreter.

Shohei Ohtani, who made history with his unprecedented 50-50 season (at least 50 home runs and 50 stolen bases), shared that he sees a connection between himself and Lindor, who has been instrumental for the Mets’ deep playoff run in 2024.

"I do feel like we’re perhaps connected in the same sense," he added.

This recognition of Lindor’s leadership and positive energy underscores his ability to shine in clutch moments. Situations like hitting a grand slam in the National League Division Series and leading off Game 2 of the NLCS with a solo home run, aiding the Mets in tying the series 1-1 after a shutout loss in Game 1.

Battle between MVP contenders continues in Game 3 of NLCS at Citi Field

As the series heads to New York tied at 1-1, all eyes will be on these two superstars. Ohtani has struggled recently, going 2-for-11 with five strikeouts over his last three games. Francisco Lindor, while slightly more consistent, will also need to continue delivering if the Mets hope to win the National League pennant.

Both Ohtani and Lindor have proven their ability to dominate and contribute to their teams in the regular season, but only one will lead their team to the World Series. Game 3 is scheduled to start on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. ET.
