Twins make major announcement to operations after missing out on MLB 2024 playoffs

Following a disappointing 2024 MLB season, the Minnesota Twins are changing things up. They won the AL Central in 2023 before fighting till the very end but losing out on a wild card berth in 2024. Now, they're moving on from Thad Levine at GM.

The GM had been instrumental in building the team, but they are going to go in a different direction now that they failed to defend their division title. The role is now up for grabs.

Twins President of Baseball Operations Derek Falvey said via the Twins official announcement:

“Thad’s impact on the Minnesota Twins cannot be overstated. He has been a true partner and leader, always striving to elevate the organization and care for the people around him. Thad helped create a strong team culture, one focused on excellence and collaboration, that will continue well into the future."

Falvey said the team would miss Levine's leadership, but that they're excited to see the next chapter in his journey. Falvey wished him "nothing but success in his future endeavors." He also personally thanked Levine for what he did to try and improve the Twins every single day.

The Minnesota Twins had a bit of a disastrous season. After a division title, they cut payroll and got worse. They had to fight for a wild-card spot in what turned out to be a highly competitive division. They ultimately faded down the stretch and allowed both the Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals to swoop in for the playoff berths.

As a result, they and GM Thad Levine are going their separate ways. Via MLB, the outgoing GM said:

“I am grateful to the Pohlad family, Derek Falvey and Dave St. Peter for providing me with such a comprehensive leadership opportunity spanning the last eight years of my career. The time is right for me to pursue my next enriching, professional challenge. I will forever cherish the friendships that I have made in the Minnesota Twins organization and throughout Twins Territory.”

The Twins will begin their search for a new executive to lead them in 2025 and beyond.
