The Seattle Mariners fired long-time manager Scott Servais on Thursday amidst the team's slippery run over the last few weeks. Servais was in the middle of his ninth season in charge of the AL West team.

The Mariners replaced Servais, the second manager to be fired this season after the White Sox's Pedro Grifol, and appointed former Seattle catcher Dan Wilson as the new manager.

Following his departure, Servais compiled a message for the Mariners, the fans and his former players. He acknowledged the effort of his players and foresaw a bright future for the team:

"To the players, you've been the core of this journey. The energy and competitiveness on the field matched the camaraderie and bond we shared in the locker room. Nothing has been more rewarding than watching you grow and bring your all to the game. I know this team has a bright future ahead," an excerpt from his post read.

It hasn't been an easy ride for the Mariners fans, who saw the team fail to make it to the postseason last year despite a good start to the season. Fans have witnessed a similar theme this year with the Houston Astros overturning Mariners' lead over the last two months.

Servais led the team into the postseason in 2022 and his message for the fans reflected what the supporters' backing meant to the team during his tenure:

"To the fans, you are the soul of this organization. Your support has driven us to push harder, fight longer and never back down. The return of postseason baseball to Seattle was a moment we shared together and I'm confident your commitment to the team will continue to push them forward," Servais said in his statement.

Scott Servais got to know about his firing over the news

The former Mariners manager found out about his firing over the news after reports started circulating in the media on Wednesday:

“In what has been one of my least favorite days in my professional life, the worst part of it was the fact that Scott and [hitting coach Jarret DeHart] found out about this over the crawl of a news channel,” Mariners Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto said. “That, it crushes me and I know it hurts them a great deal.”

The Los Angeles Dodgers' series sweep against the Mariners proved to be the final nail in the coffin for Scott Servais with the team's postseason chances looking bleak. Seattle is 64-64 for the season so far – 2-8 in their last 10 games – and the club is currently second in the AL West standings.
