Greg Papa got emotional during his final goodbye to the Oakland Coliseum, as Thursday's game between the Oakland Athletics and Texas Rangers would be the last game to be held at the stadium. However, on Wednesday, the Athletics lost their second last game at the Oakland Coliseum against the Rangers with a score of 5-1.

Greg Papa shared his views on leaving the Oakland Coliseum after this game.

"It just seems like yesterday that I was there doing those games. So to some respects, it did feel like a class reunion and going back and seeing a lot of people you haven't seen for a number of years in a place that was so special to you for so long, " Papa said.
"But then when I got in the car and drove away, it felt more like a funeral and it felt like someone very close to us has died and you're not going to see him again."

The fans also talked about how they didn't agree with the decision to change the Oakland Athletics and defied John Fisher.

"The MLB and John Fisher should be taken to court and the city of Oakland be handed Athletics history and name and color," one fan said.
"The pain, and sadness. I cried with Papa, too," another fan stated.

Some other fans also shared sentiments about the changes being made in the Oakland Athletics:

"Makes it hard to believe that any amount of money could be worth doing this to people," one fan shared.
"Damn.... I'll be at the final game tomorrow, but this just made everything real. The east bay misses you Papa!" one fan opined.
"It’s an absolute travesty and should be stopped…somehow," one fan mentioned.
"I started crying while listening this morning. I don’t have those memories of the Coliseum but I appreciate what has been a great history there," one fan remarked.

The future of the Oakland Athletics

The Oakland Athletics won't be called the 'Oakland Athletics' after their Thursday game against the Texas Rangers. In fact, after bidding farewell to the Oakland Coliseum, the team will be looking to build a new stadium in Las Vegas by 2028.

In the meantime, the franchise will play in the minor league and they will be known as 'the Athletics' during that time. So, this season would be the last time the team's playing in the MLB for the next three seasons.

This happened because the team couldn't extend the stadium's lease beyond this season. The fans are enraged at this decision, as they won't be able to witness their team in the major league for a long time now.
