There were some positive news for National League teams as three playoff contenders got some updates on their stars who have been sidelined due to injury. Here's taking a deeper look into the updates.

#1. Yoshinobu Yamamoto building confidence to return

Yoshinobu Yamamoto looked confident in his second bullpen session as he strives to return to the Dodgers rotation. The rookie has been sidelined since June after sustaining left forearm tightness.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Yamamoto will also travel with the team to Milwaukee where he's expected to throw his first live session. The Japanese ace has a 2.92 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 74 innings pitched.

The Dodgers rotation has been weak and strong reinforcements are needed to turn their latest run of results, which has seen their NL West lead cut down to 3.0 games.

#2. Kodai Senga possibly set for postseason return

Kodai Senga missed the entirety of spring training and was sidelined for the first few months of the regular season. The Mets' ace returned on July 26 but left after throwing 5.1 innings, due to a calf strain.

Upon further evaluation, manager Carlos Mendoza announced Senga would be out for the regular season due to a 'high grade' calf strain.

As per Mets beat writer Anthony DiComo, Senga will indeed be out for the regular season, but he may have a chance to get back to the New York lineup in the postseason. His rehab over the next few weeks will determine whether he can slot in the rotation in an all-important time for the Mets.

#3. Julio Rodriguez trods bases, had BP session before Mariners clash

Mariners outfielder Julio Rodriguez injured his ankle while completing a catch in a game against the Houston Astros last month. He has been on the 10-day IL ever since.

J-Rod reportedly had a pre-game workout session and faced a bullpen session before the Mariners' game against the Tigers on Wednesday. Manager Scott Servais updated that even though Rodriguez looked okay with his swings, his running is yet to achieve perfection.
