"Low class"; "poverty & clown franchise" - MLB fans furious over Marlins firing clubhouse attendants, travel secretary etc. after disastrous season

The Miami Marlins are reportedly making drastic organizational changes following their failure to qualify for the postseason

After they snuck into the MLB 2023 playoffs, hopes were high for Miami Marlins fans for the 2024 campaign. However, after going 62-100, the club finished with the second-worst record in the NL. Now, some big changes are reportedly in the making.

It all began when Skip Schumaker, manager since 2023, announced alongside the club that they had mutually decided to part ways. The announcement, coming on the first day of the offseason, has been followed up with a "house cleaning" of sorts.

"Per sources, the term I’m hearing is “blood bath” regarding the Marlins’ firings. Clubhouse attendants, travel secretary, performance staff and coaching staff. EVERYONE" - Isaac Azout

On Wednesday morning, Miami-based writer Isaac Azout indicated that a "blood bath" is brewing in the Marlins' front office. According to Azout, clubhouse attendants, travel secretary and other support staff will be let go. Even after a nightmarish season, fans are not impressed by the move.

Although the Colorado Rockies were the only NL team to finish with a worse record, fans do not believe that the firing spree will help matters. Instead, owner Bruce Sherman has found himself in the crosshairs of much of the sentiment coming from disillusioned fans.

"How much of this is deserved vs need to “blame” someone for a team never given real shot to perform performing?" - quipped a fan
"Can they fire the owner?" - came another critique of Sherman
"Unfortunately, the owner is still there. Shame." - lamented another

Many fans are angry at the Miami Marlins for, as they see it, trading away talent early in the year. In May, NL batting champ Luis Arraez was dealt to the Padres, while Jazz Chisholm Jr. was traded to the New York Yankees in the summer. Chisholm was previously regarded as a franchise player in Miami.

"Hopefully this includes the owner. Nothing matters as long as he’s still owner." - slammed a fan
It's definitely the Clubhouse attendant's fault" - remarked a fan
"The janitors are clearly to blame" - came a final sarcastic jab

Departure of Skip Schumaker puts Miami Marlins back on square one

A two-time World Series winner as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals, Schumaker won the NL Manager of the Year Award in 2023. However, his parting ways with the team happened quickly, as read the statement from Bruce Sherman:

“After several constructive conversations with Skip, Peter, and ownership, we have mutually agreed to part ways, and Skip will not be returning to manage the club next year. The Marlins will immediately begin the process of searching for the next leader to serve as our new field manager"

The reasons for Schumaker's departure may be further uncovered in the coming weeks and months, but the Marlins have now embarked on an ambitious rebuild. Whether it will deliver the desired results remains to be determined.
