Fans reacted as the New York Yankees slumped to an unexpected loss to the Cleveland Guardians in Game 4 ALCS on Thursday. The Yanks were 5-3 at the bottom of the ninth inning when they gave up a two-run blast to move into extra innings. Unfortunately, the bullpen gave up another two-run blast in the 10th inning as the Guardians walked it off.

At the top of the 10th inning, Andrés Giménez made an incredible play for the Guardians, preventing Jazz Chisholm's hit and throwing it to first base. Gimenez's throw was a bit off first base, but Josh Naylor made a great pick. However, Chisholm reached first base, and Naylor seemed to have lifted his leg off the bag for a quick second.

The Yankees never challenged the play, as Chisholm was declared out. Fans were upset about the Bronx Bombers' decision and took to social media to vent their frustration.

Here's a look at some of the fan reactions on X.

"Josh Naylor was off the bag as ball entered the glove. Yanks blow that challenge," wrote one fan.
"Jazz Chisholm was safe," another wrote.
"But his foot did come off the bag and if it had been challenged I think we would have won the challenge," one fan chimed in.

Many were unhappy with the team's failure to challenge the call.

"The play was good. Naylor’s foot was off the bag when the ball reached his glove. Should’ve been challenged," one fan responded.
"Why doesn’t Boone challenge that," wondered one fan.
"What are the Yankees challenge guys looking at??," one fan chipped in.

Yankees to start Luis Gil against Guardians in Game 4

After their last-minute defeat, Aaron Boone will send Luis Gil to the mound as their starter in Game 4. Gil will make his first postseason appearance against Gavin Williams. Game 4 is crucial for the Yanks, as they remain two wins away from progressing to the World Series.

The Yankees bullpen was a letdown, especially after Clay Holmes had surrendered a two-run homer to David Fry. Luke Weaver gave up a two-run homer to Jhonkensy Noel that tied the game. So, the pressure will be on Gil to lead his team to a win.
