The United States presidential election is just weeks away and former Marlins club president David Samson shared his thoughts after the vice presidential debate between JD Vance and Tim Walz held on Tuesday evening.
On today's "Nothing Personal With David Samson" podcast, the host compared the VP debate between Vance and Walz to the previous debate between Harris and Trump held on Sept. 10.
"I had a split-screen situation with the VP debate and couldn't help but think, man, they [Vance and Walz] were way more civil than Kamala [Harris] and [Donald] Trump were. It's hard to be civil when you're in a debate like the presidential debate," said Samson. [42:41]
As far as who he felt was the favorite to win the election, Samson seemed to lean towards Harris because she was relatively younger than Trump. However, Samson seemed to align more with Vance, Trump's running mate, rather than Walz.
"JD Vance looks polished, has a good story to tell - opiate addiction in the family, overcame it, three young children. He seems to be way more rational. Then you start thinking about policies, and you get to make a choice," Samson said. [43:17]
"Tim Walz looks a little more like your grandfather, but again, you have to look at policies and make a choice. If you want to make it just about Israel, just about abortion, you can do that too. Or just about economics -your economics, defense, safety, immigration," Samson said. [43:35]
Interestingly, Samson didn't reveal his political inclination, despite talking about it for some time. Nonetheless, as the election is just 34 days away, he urged concerned citizens to do their research and vote accordingly.
As for the Marlins, the team recently parted ways with Skip Schumaker who had won the Manager of the Year Award in 2023. Moreover, reports have emerged of the team firing the entire coaching staff.
Donald Trump wants Pete Rose in the Hall of Fame; Fransisco Lindor's wife Katia shows Kamala Harris leaning
Recently deceased Pete Rose was not a Baseball Hall of Fame member despite his incredible resume. A league investigtion determined that Rose was guilty of betting on MLB games while he was the Cincinnati Reds manager in 1989, which is a violation of MLB rules.
After Rose's death, Donald Trump, via posts on X, formerly known as Twitter, and Truth Social, called for Rose's Hall of Fame induction, citing he had paid the price for his mistake. Trump even called for Rose to be inducted before his funeral proceedings. MLB leadership has not yet addressed the issue.
On another note, Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor's wife Katia is seemingly aligned with Kamala Harris. In one of her recent Instagram stories, she shared an article regarding Donald Trump's tax policies. Though she didn't explicitly state her support for Harris, the article mentioned that Harris and current President Joe Biden were mistakenly thought of as the reasons for the high taxes.
