Blake Snell was quite open during the offseason about the team he wanted to play for this year. The southpaw had expressed his desire several times to play for his hometown team, the Seattle Mariners.

However, Snell’s interest seemed to have been one-sided as he didn't garner any moves from the team this past offseason. Discussing the Mariners’ lack of interest in an episode of "Foul Territory," he said:

"I thought they would at least call, but nothing. I wasn’t shocked for that because just their track record. But, yeah I mean I was curious on it for sure.”

Blake Snell spent most of his childhood in Seattle as a Mariners fan. After spending much of his offseason in free agency hoping for a move from his favorite team, Snell signed a two-year deal worth $62 million with the San Francisco Giants.

Having missed spring training, the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner had a relatively rough start to the 2024 season. In his first three games with the Giants, he gave up 15 earned runs on 18 hits with 12 strikeouts in 11.2 innings pitched.

Despite not going for Snell in the offseason, the Seattle Mariners have been performing well, leading the AL West with 59 wins and 54 losses.

Blake Snell records first career no-hitter with the Giants

Blake Snell was placed on the injured list twice during the 2024 season, first for an adductor injury and then for a groin injury. Since returning from these health issues, Snell has been back to his former self.

After a tough first half of the season, Snell had a turnaround performance in the second half, giving up only two runs in his last five starts while recording 41 strikeouts. In his most recent game against the Cincinnati Reds on Friday, he recorded the first no-hitter of his career.

"They can't say it anymore. You know? Complete game, shutout, no-hitter. Leave me alone. 'He doesn't go into the 9th. He doesn't go into the 8th.' Just did it. Leave me alone," Blake Snell told about his no-hitter.

The San Francisco Giants are ranked fourth in the NL West with a .500 winning percentage. Blake Snell is scheduled to make his next start with the Giants on Wednesday against the Washington Nationals.
