Freddie Freeman Injury Update: Dodgers first baseman suffers hairline fracture, Dave Roberts has an update on his playing status

LA Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman was diagnosed with a hairline fracture in his right middle finger but was in the lineup against the Seattle Mariners on Monday. Manager Dave Roberts said Freeman will play through the injury.

Against the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday, Freeman exited the game after three plate appearances. Initially, it was reported as a jammed finger, and the subsequent report came back negative. However, it seems the injury has aggravated, with it now being a hairline fracture.

Freeman was out of Sunday's game against the Cardinals, as Roberts told reporters that he was unable to grip the bat properly due to swelling. He underwent a CT scan on Monday.

Freeman was playing on Monday against the Seattle Mariners, hitting third behind Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts.

Freddie Freeman told the media about his condition, which had gotten worse overnight after what was initially a jammed finger.

“I was a little nervous when my finger blew up like that,” Freeman told reporters after Saturday’s game, via The Orange County Register. “It just started getting bigger and bigger, and as you guys know, when you jam something, it just kind of swells and gets tight.

“It was kind of hurting to throw, so best to get me out and get some ice on it and see how we do the next day.”

Freddie Freeman has been one of the few batters in the Dodgers lineup who have been there day in and day out to bat third in the lineup. It was only his son Maximus' health scare that needed him to take a hiatus, as he was placed on the family emergency list.

His return on Aug. 5 received a huge round of applause from Dodgers fans, and again, it was only on Monday that he missed a game on Sunday purely due to injury.

This season, he is batting .292 to go along with 17 home runs, six stolen bases and 72 RBIs.
