Dodgers vs. Mets: NLCS Game 5 predictions, odds and picks — Oct 18, MLB 2024

The Los Angeles Dodgers flexed their muscles on the New York Mets in Game 4 on Thursday night, putting them one win from the World Series. The Mets, in their final home game of this series, will have to win to stave off defeat in NLCS Game 5 on Friday and send the series back to Los Angeles.

Over the last two games, the Mets have looked relatively lifeless, but they will need to turn things around or risk their dream run coming to an end early.

Dodgers vs. Mets Recent Form and Records

The Los Angeles Dodgers finished their regular season on a high note, winning two in a row as well as eight of their last 10 matchups. Things slowed down just a bit in the playoffs, but they are 6-3 in the postseason after beating the San Diego Padres and getting three wins over the Mets.

Meanwhile, the New York Mets went 5-5 and lost their final game of the regular season, but they had to get hot just to make it to the playoffs. They are 6-5 in postseason play this year.

Must-watch Hitters

Dodgers

Mookie Betts had three hits last night, including a home run. The Dodgers star is rounding into form at the right time and helping propel his team to the World Series.

Shohei Ohtani has two home runs in his last two games, which certainly does not bode well for the Mets. He led off Game 4 with a home run.

Mets

Mark Vientos continues to be red-hot this postseason. He hit an early game-tying home run, though the Dodgers would go on to win 10-2.

Francisco Lindor has been relatively quiet this series, but he has had a brilliant postseason either way. The Mets will need him tonight, though.

Dodgers vs. Mets Expert Predictions

The Mets currently look dead in the water, and nothing about tonight's pitching matchup suggests that they're going to turn things around. Flaherty dominated them once, and Peterson is going to have his hands full with a hot lineup.

They are at home, but that hasn't mattered in two blowouts this series. The Mets have seemingly run out of gas, and it looks like their dream run has come to an end.

Total Runs: Over 7.5

Prediction: Dodgers 6, Mets 2
