New York Yankees center fielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. takes a step back on his statements after a sly dig at the Los Angeles Angels while praising teammate Alex Verdugo. Chisholm Jr. apologized for his statement on Sunday after backlash from the Angels fans.

After the New York Yankees won against the Kansas City Royals in the ALDS Game 1, Chisholm Jr. talked about the great performance of Alex Verdugo during the game. Verdugo helped break the 5-5 tie in the seventh inning, leading his team to the win. So, while talking about Verdugo, Jazz Chisholm Jr. also took a dig at the Angels postgame.

"He lives for this," said Chisholm of Verdugo. "He’s played in big cities before. He played in Boston, he played in L.A., and I’m not talking about the Angels, you know what I mean?"

His comment didn't go down well with the Angels fans and Chisholm Jr. wrote an apology on X.

"Didn’t mean to offend you Angels fans,” Chisholm wrote. “Sorry #lovedisney."

The Yankees infielder thought it'd be funny to make a statement about Verdugo, who's previously played for the playoff teams like Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers.

The 24 cameras weren't enough to overturn Jazz Chisholm Jr's stolen bases

The ALDS opener witnessed a controversial moment when Jazz Chisholm Jr.'s stolen base. The original call claimed that Chisholm Jr. touched the bag before being tagged by Royals second baseman Michael Massey.

Despite 24 cameras set up across the Yankee Stadium, umpires failed to find a conclusive angle as the on-field decision stayed in the favor of the Yankees. Royals manager Matt Quatraro intervened during the game as he protested the controversial call.

Jazz Chisholm Jr also talked about the incident in his postgame interview.

"Nobody could throw me out," Chisholm told reporters. "Yeah, that ain't happening."
"I knew I was in there," he added. "That's what we were talking about at second base, actually. [Massey] was like, 'I put down a good tag.' I said, 'You did put down a good tag. That doesn't mean I'm out.'"

Michael Massey had a different outlook on the situation.

"No, I knew I was there. It's frustrating, because the video I saw looked pretty convincing to me," Massey said.

Many blamed the lack of technology for the 6-5 victory of the New York Yankees over the Kansas City Royals this Saturday.
