It didn't take long for Carlos Mendoza and the New York Mets front office to address the Jorge Lopez situation. Lopez was ejected from Wednesday's ballgame and proceeded to toss his glove into the stands and took a shot at the club afterward.

Lopez was designated for assignment shortly after the events unfolded on Wednesday. Mendoza addressed the media explaining that the club has "standards," and it's time for Lopez to go.

It did not take long for baseball fans to troll the club on its "standards," as they have struggled mightily this season. From the offense vanishing in big spots to the bullpen's meltdowns, there has not been much to cheer about.

Heading into Thursday, Carlos Mendoza and the Mets hold a 22-33 record, putting them fourth in the National League East. They are 16 games behind the Philadelphia Phillies, who sit atop the division.

"100 games under .500 is not standards" - one fan posted.
"Lmao u clearly don't or u would actually be winning games" - posted another.
"Get over yourself Carlos" - posted another.

Fans don't see any "standards" from this club. From poor performances on the field to behavioral issues from Jorge Lopez, the club has been a mess.

"Elaborate on those standards plz?" - said another fan.
"Soon to be last place in the NL East standards.." - said another.
"22-33? Great standards" - said another.

If things don't change soon, it will be another season where this team are sellers at the trade deadline. And with Pete Alonso's free agency looming, that would not be good.

While Jorge Lopez departs, so does Edwin Diaz, leaving Carlos Mendoza and the Mets shorthanded

Carlos Mendoza and the Mets have a serious bullpen issue following Wednesday night. While they DFA'd Jorge Lopez, they also placed All-Star closer Edwin Diaz on the 15-day IL.

The hard-throwing righty is dealing with a right should impingement. It might be a good sign, given how he has looked this year. He has looked far from the pitcher he was in 2022.

Hopefully, he can get healthy and return to form. However, guys like Jake Diekman, Adam Ottavino and Reed Garrett must pick up the slack until he returns.

Given how all the relievers have performed in the past, they are surely capable of holding it down, but they will surely be tested.
