The New York Mets are quite close to making the playoffs. Before they played the Milwaukee Brewers in a three-game series, their chances were pretty good. After they lost the first two games, the Mets redeemed themselves with a 5-0 victory.

If the Mets beat the Atlanta Braves once in the upcoming doubleheader, they will make the playoffs. The MLB postponed the series between the Mets and the Braves to Monday due to Hurricane Helene.

The Mets are one game behind the Braves, so if they win just one game, they will be in second place, right behind the San Diego Padres, who have made the postseason.

As of now, the Mets have the most chance of making the playoffs game. If the Mets and the Braves split the two games, both will make the playoffs.

If the New York Mets sweep the Braves, the Diamondbacks will go ahead with the Mets. But if the Mets get swept, the other two teams will make the playoffs.

Francisco Lindor and David Peterson star for the New York Mets

Francisco Lindor hit a home run that delivered two runs, while David Peterson pitched great in straight seven innings as the New York Mets secured a 5-0 victory against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Mets could have clinched a playoff spot had the Diamondbacks lost against the San Diego Padres, but they turned the tables with an 11-2 win. Still, the Mets are hopeful of a playoff berth, and manager Carlos Mendoza gave fans a glimpse of the spirit of the team.

"We have a chance. We get to play and we need one more (win). We feel good," manager Carlos Mendoza said. "Nobody expected us to be in this position and here we are with a chance to do something special."

However, the Mets won't have much time for an off day, after they're done playing the doubleheader against the Braves. Designated hitter J.D. Martinez talked about how the scheduling is disadvantageous for the Mets as they seek to reach the postseason.
