Cowboy Bebop director's Lazarus anime reveals first-look trailer

A new trailer for the Lazarus anime was recently released by Adult Swim, which further confirmed that the anime is scheduled for release in 2025 through Toonami in the US. Cowboy Bebop creator Shinichiro Watanabe will direct each episode, and Studio MAPPA, known for its adaptations of Jujutsu Kaisen, Attack on Titan, and Chainsaw Man, will produce the series.

Senior vice president and head of anime and action series at Adult Swim, Jason DeMarco, revealed that Chad Stahelski, the John Wick stuntman and director, is going to be in charge of the action sequences of the Lazarus anime.

A trailer featuring protagonist Axel was dropped for Lazarus anime

The trailer, which was released this Friday, October 18, mostly focused on the main character, Axel Gilberto, being chased in what seems to be a futuristic setting. It showcased the fluid animation style and some of the acrobatics courtesy of Chad Stahelski, the John Wick stuntman and director.

As per reports, this anime is going to have a soundtrack made by jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington. Shinichiro Watanabe, the man known for projects Samurai Champloo and Space Dandy apart from Cowboy Bebop, will direct all the 13 episodes, as announced during a panel discussion at New York Comic-Con 2024 on Saturday.


The premise of the series

The Lazarus anime takes place in 2052 and focuses on an all-curing drug named Hapuna, which was created by Dr. Skinner, who, after emerging from obscurity after a while, reveals that the drug leads to people having a three-year life span, leading to a task force named "Lazarus" to catch him to come up with an antidote.

It has been confirmed that Lazarus will feature Mamoru Miyano as Axel, Makoto Furukawa as Doug, Maaya Uchida as Chris, Yuma Uchida as Leland, Manaka Iwami as Eleina, Megumi Hayashibara as Hersch, Akio Otsuka as Abel, and Koichi Yamadera as Dr. Skinner. More voice actors are set to be confirmed in the coming months.
