Jon Moxley won the AEW World Championship at WrestleDream after defeating his former best friend, Bryan Danielson, in the main event. However, recent reports revealed that Darby Allin was initially planned to take the World Title from The American Dragon.

A couple of months ago at Royal Rampage, Darby Allin won the opportunity to challenge for the AEW World Championship at the WrestleDream PPV event. However, a returning Jon Moxley managed to make Darby Allin put his opportunity on the line against him at Dynamite: Grand Slam. The Death Rider defeated Darby Allin at Grand Slam and went on to take the AEW World Title from Bryan Danielson at WrestleDream.

In a recent report by the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it was revealed that Darby Allin was supposed to defeat Bryan Danielson at WrestleDream but Jon Moxley's heel turn altered those plans. The company decided to make Moxley World Champion to put more heat on him and spark interest in the promotion.

"The original plan when Bryan Danielson won the AEW Title at Wembley, was to lose it to Darby Allin at WrestleDream. The Jon Moxley turn on Danielson changed the direction, with the idea of putting as much heat as possible on Moxley and the BCC in an attempt to jump-start interest in the promotion." - WON

Bully Ray wants AEW to push Darby Allin as the next big babyface

As mentioned above, Darby Allin lost his opportunity to challenge for the World Championship to Jon Moxley. At the time, many questioned the move behind making him lose his shot including WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray.

In the recent episode of the Busted Open podcast, Bully Ray said that he wants to see Darby Allin positioned as the next superhero in All Elite Wrestling. He claimed that during the end of the WrestleDream PPV, the company set Darby up as the potential next big babyface.

"As of right now, based on everything that I saw at the end of that show — of WrestleDream — I want Darby Allin to be positioned as my superhero! [...] Darby was the guy set up to be the hero," Bully said. [H/T - Wrestling Inc]

It will be interesting to see if All Elite Wrestling pulls the trigger on Darby Allin and books him to defeat Jon Moxley for the AEW World Title.
