A popular AEW star re-signing with the company has now ended up not being a sure deal and there was reportedly still a major chance of him jumping ship and heading to WWE. This would be Daniel Garcia.

After he was written off TV after a brutal attack coming at the hands of MJF, Garcia's future in AEW has been a constant topic of conversation among the fans. Despite the belief that he would be re-signing with the company, there have been constant reports of WWE's great interest in him.

Fightful Select has just reported that despite the recent belief that he was leaning toward re-signing with the company, this was apparently not the case anymore. His deal was supposedly set to expire in the fall, and he remains having great interest from both WWE, and AEW who wished to retain him with the Jacksonville-based promotion.

It is important to note that before signing with the Tony Khan-led promotion, Garcia had a tryout with WWE previously. He also made a brief appearance on 205 Live back in 2018, serving as developmental talent when he had a squash match against Drew Gulak.

WWE has a heavy interest in multiple AEW stars

2024 has been labeled by some fans as the year of contracts, as since last year, the whole wrestling world has had its eyes on several major names whose contracts were expiring within the year.

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, WWE has had their eye on several AEW stars whose contracts were nearing their end, or those who have not appeared on television recently. This includes the likes of Daniel Garcia, Ricky Starks, and the Lucha Brothers.

While nothing has been set in stone just yet, the heavy interest of WWE plays a big part in swaying these big names to jump ship to their company. Seeing as how the likes of Jade Cargill, Ethan Page, Shawn Spears, and Cody Rhodes have all made the jump and have had good runs recently, this could be the tipping point for some soon-to-be free agents.
