Jon Moxley became a record-setting four-time AEW World Champion at the WrestleDream pay-per-view this past weekend, but this wasn't a simple title change. Mox has become one of the biggest villains in AEW history, and WWE legend Mark Henry believes a new World Championship design should be introduced to enhance the angle.
Jon Moxley rebuilt The Blackpool Combat Club in the lead-up to All Out 2024, where he and the faction betrayed Bryan Danielson. The Purveyor of Violence then delivered on his promise to end The American Dragon's career at WrestleDream.
Mark Henry believes that Jon Moxley should cement his rise by introducing a new design for the AEW World Championship. On a recent edition of Busted Open Radio, the WWE Hall of Famer questioned why Mox would want to wear the same belt Bryan Danielson wore:
"One, why would I, as Jon Moxley, put over my shoulder or put around my waist something that once touched Bryan Danielson? Two, why would I put on something that the representation of it is all that’s pure and good in the world?"
Henry claimed that Moxley's title should be a completely new design that reflect's the BCC leader's dark and brutal persona:
"The new AEW title that Moxley is going to bring is going to be filthy, nasty, it’s going have his signature on it. It’ll be a standalone AEW world title that looks completely different than the one Bryan Danielson had, and you put it in a bag and you put it away because it’s symbolic of ‘we’re going to put this to bed.’" [h/t EWrestlingNews]
AEW issues ominous proclamation following Jon Moxley's World Championship win
Jon Moxley has been patient and methodical in his approach. He's become cold and unforgiving, and his reign as AEW World Champion promises to turn the company on its head.
With Claudio Castagnoli, Pac, Marina Shafir, and the reluctant Wheeler Yuta at his command, there's a chance Mox could rule the Jacksonville-based promotion for months or even years to come.
AEW highlighted this possibility with a recent message on social media. The promotion claimed that with Mox at the top of the mountain, nobody is safe:
"JON MYXLEY IS THE NEW AEW WORLD CHAMPION. NOBODY IS SAFE."
As of now, there are only a few who could stand up to Moxley, but the power and brutality of The Blackpool Combat Club could render any attempt to dethrone him futile. Could the impending return of Kenny Omega make a difference? Only time will tell.
