A WWE legend has just confessed that he wants to hang up his wrestling boots in the manner that Sting had, in AEW. The Icon retired earlier this year.

After his stint in WCW as The Giant, Paul Wight made a name for himself in WWE where he wrestled under the ring name, The Big Show. During his tenure in the Stamford-based promotion, Wight accomplished much, winning numerous accolades. However, after spending several years in the global juggernaut, he surprised everyone and moved to AEW in early 2021.

Since then, he has made sporadic appearances for the Jacksonville-based company, participating in only a handful of matches. His most recent was against The Don Callis Family, but he couldn't complete the bout after suffering a body slam from Powerhouse Hobbs onto the hood of a car.

Despite this, the veteran seems ready to get back into the ring. During a recent appearance on Downunder The Ring, Paul Wight spoke about wrestling as Captain Insano - a character he played in Adam Sandler's The Waterboy. He also spoke about his retirement stating that he wants to go out like Sting had.

He wanted to emulate the Stinger and have a little fairytale run before he bowed out of the game. He also noted that he was keen to work with the young talent in the locker room and share his knowledge. The 52-year-old also joked about becoming a famous playwright once he was done with his pro wrestling career.

“I kind of wanna go out like Sting did. Have a nice little run. Have some great matches, work with some of this amazing, young talent we have in AEW and then, slide out. That goal accomplished and then, I’ll move to New York and become a world-famous playwright. It’s a joke, because I can’t spell… Grand Slam: Australia and hopefully Captain Insano will have a match and we’re actually gonna see a 400-pound guy in spandex… So let me correct that. A se*y, good-looking, bald, 400-pound guy in spandex. I mean, that’s my opinion,” he said. [H/T Post Wrestling]

Bill Apter doesn't want to see Sting return to the ring

Sting retired after his farewell match at AEW Revolution, earlier this year. However, The Icon made a return at AEW All In recently to save his former tag team partner, Darby Allin, from Jack Perry and The Young Bucks. This led many people to believe that The Icon could be making his return to the ring once again.

Speaking on Sportskeeda Wrestling's The Wrestling Time Machine show with Mac Davis, Bill Apter mentioned that he didn't want the WCW legend to return to the ring because he didn't want to ruin his last memory of The Icon, where the latter bowed out of wrestling, looking very much like he still "had it."

"I agree. I don't want to see him in action again because my last few memories of him are still intact and always remind me of when people go too long in their careers. I always think about Muhammad Ali against Larry Holmes, and Ali never shouldn't have done that. Sting in his final match even though it was a tag team match, he still looked like he had it. I don't want to see him not have it," said Apter [1:38 - 2:08]

It will be interesting to see if the WCW legend ever comes out of retirement to return to the squared circle once again.
