AEW star Sammy Guevara recently spoke about being Cody Rhodes' last opponent in the Jacksonville-based promotion. The American Nightmare is the current Undisputed WWE Champion.

The 39-year-old left AEW in 2022 and made his blockbuster return to WWE at WrestleMania 38. On his way out, Cody Rhodes put over Sammy Guevara as he faced The Spanish God in a brutal Ladder Match for the TNT Championship at Dynamite: Beach Break 2022.

In a recent chat on the DDP Yoga YouTube channel, Sammy Guevara recalled how the SmackDown Superstar wanted to give his best despite it being his last match in All Elite Wrestling.

The Spanish God praised The American Nightmare for his desire to do to all the incredible spots during the match.

“Going into that match, Cody, you know him. He wants to give the people a show they’re never gonna forget. I didn’t know it at the time; maybe he did, but that was also his final AEW match. He could have easily phoned it in, but he gave it 110%. He wanted to do so much craziness, and so going into it, I know what Cody’s mindset is; it’s just go balls to the walls," he said.

The AEW star further spoke about how he thought about the match on the plane and rehearsed the moves in his mind. Guevara stated that he was pleased that the match against Cody Rhodes worked out in the end.

"So I’m thinking of all these crazy things. On the plane, the whole time, I’m just thinking, ‘What can we do?’ Oh, if he’s over there, a cutter? Is that even possible?' The only tricky part was if that ladder that I sprang up to jump off kicks out behind me, we’re gonna have a Botchamania moment, you know? That’s definitely not what you want on live TV. It’s just go big or go home, and it’s one of those moments that’s gonna live on past me, I feel like. I’m so happy it worked out,” he added. [H/T: PWMania]

Cody Rhodes is set to team up with Roman Reigns at WWE Bad Blood 2024

Roman Reigns made his return to WWE TV at SummerSlam 2024. The OTC took out his former Enforcer, Solo Sikoa, during the latter's Undisputed WWE Title Bloodline Rules Match against Cody Rhodes.

The Original Tribal Chief and The American Nightmare will join forces at the Bad Blood Premium Live Event next month to take on Sikoa and Jacob Fatu in a tag team match.

The former rivals had a confrontation on last night's SmackDown. During the segment, Roman and Cody agreed to have each other's back at the upcoming PLE. However, The OTC made it clear that he would come after Rhodes' title after he was done with The Bloodline.

It will be interesting to see how the dynamics between Roman and Cody evolve in the coming weeks.
