A former WWE United States Champion has claimed that AEW President Tony Khan could not understand his popular gimmick. The said star departed from All Elite Wrestling earlier this year.

The name in question is none other than Matt Hardy. He was signed to All Elite Wrestling from 2020 until his departure earlier this year. Hardy is known for his time in WWE and is currently active in TNA Wrestling. During his previous stint in TNA, he introduced the 'Broken' Matt character, which became very popular.

Many fans wondered why Hardy portrayed the 'Big Money' Matt gimmick instead of using the 'Broken' Matt character in AEW. On his Extreme Life podcast, the former United States Champion recently disclosed that his 'Broken' Matt persona wasn't Tony Khan's cup of tea. He also spoke about the 'Big Money' Matt character's origin.

"'Broken' Matt Hardy wasn’t Tony Khan’s cup of tea anyway as it was. I think ‘Big Money' Matt, a guy who’s out there bragging about his wealth and status and how much money he’s made in this industry, whatever because if you notice immediately after we do The Elite Deletion, you see me doing promos on TV kind of boasting about how I destroyed Sammy and it was the best thing on the pay-per-view. The wheels were already in motion to do ‘Big Money’ Matt,” Hardy said. [H/T: WrestleTalk]
