Darby Allin confirms he had a plan B ready for shocking AEW spot

Darby Allin recently made a shocking return to AEW TV earlier this month. The Seattle-born wrestler also performed an unexpected spot during the 250th episode of Dynamite last week. The 31-year-old has now revealed that he had a backup plan in case the original spot was not approved.

The former TNT Champion made his return during the July 10, 2024, episode of Dynamite and revealed himself to be the final member of Team AEW for the Blood & Guts Match against The Elite. Last week, Allin descended from the rafters, similar to his former tag team partner, Sting. This is a rarely used spot since Owen Hart died in 1999. AEW always gets Martha Hart's permission every time they want to do a similar spot, and this time was no different.

Speaking on the Battleground podcast, Allin mentioned how Martha Hart had no problems with him descending from the ceiling, as she completely trusted AEW. However, the talented wrestler jokingly revealed his alternative plan of using a flamethrower in case Hart didn't approve of his original plan.

“Well, plan B was coming back out with the flamethrower. Torching a fool. But she [Martha Hart] walked up right before she was to go out live, when she presented [Bryan] Danielson with the trophy for the Owen Hart Foundation, and then Tony’s like, ‘Hey, we’re thinking of Darby coming down from the ceiling,’ and she’s like, ‘Well, first of all, I love your work, Darby, and I trust AEW with everything!''' he said.

The former TNT Champion added:

''It seemed like there was no hesitation on her part. It was cool, because I was right there and just talked to her, and she knows how everybody goes about things. So much safety went into that, and it’s just like, 'Yeah, we don’t mess around!”' [H/T: Fightful]

Booker T credits AEW for ''creating'' Darby Allin

Darby Allin was a relatively unknown wrestler when he made his AEW debut in 2019. However, since then, he has grown to become one of the pillars of the company and a household name.

Speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T praised Tony Khan for going out on a limb and believing in Darby right from the start. Booker also credited AEW for turning Darby into a star.

"I will say they created Darby Allin. Because Darby was an indie guy. He was a straight-up indie guy before he came to AEW. No one knew Darby Allin. And I think Tony Khan going out on a limb and giving this kid a shot and putting him in a highlighted position—I feel like AEW gave that kid the rub to become a star. Britt Baker as well. You gotta throw him in there as well [MJF]," he said.

It will be interesting to see how Darby Allin fares in the Blood & Guts Match this Wednesday.
