A top AEW champion shockingly got pinned at the recent Battle of the Belts XII show. It was a title eliminator match that took place between two top female stars.
The top champion in question is the current AEW Women's World Champion, Mariah May. Mariah won the title by defeating "Timeless" Toni Storm at the AEW All In 2024 Pay-Per-View in August. She successfully defended her title by defeating Willow Nightingale at the AEW WrestleDream 2024 Pay-Per-View in an amazing match as well.
Meanwhile, Mariah May was slated to take on Anna Jay in an AEW Women's World Championship eliminator match at the Battle of the Belts XII show recently. It was the main event of the show and the two women had a tremendous back-and-forth encounter before Anna Jay shockingly pinned the reigning AEW Women's World Champion with a roll-up.
With her victory, Jay earned a shot at the AEW Women's World Championship in the future as well. This is definitely a huge push for Anna since she returned from her recent Japan tour. As for Mariah May, she got a brand-new challenger. Only time will tell when Jay will get her opportunity to compete for the AEW Women's World Championship.
