The historic AEW World Tag Team Championship reign of The Young Bucks is continuing after their successful weekend title defense. The rumor mill is running rampant on potential challengers for the brothers. Following a curious inquiry coming out of WrestleDream, a major inter-promotional match may be taking place soon with champions vs. champions.
Matthew Jackson and Nicholas Jackson needed just under sixteen minutes to retain the World Tag Team Championship over Private Party's Marq Quen and Isiah Kassidy at WrestleDream. The All Elite EVPs issued a sincere review of the match this week, praising their fellow AEW Originals, while wondering about the future. As The Bucks dominate the tag team division on Tony Khan's flagship show, the Ring of Honor division is led by Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara.
The Natural and The Spanish God, who are also AEW Originals, surprisingly dethroned The Undisputed Kingdom of the ROH World Tag Team Championship on Collision in mid-August. All Elite Wrestling took to X this week to poll fans on who should challenge The Elite duo for the titles. Rhodes responded with a "let's F'N go" call to Guevara:
"Hey @sammyguevara , lfg [fire emoji x 2]," Dustin Rhodes wrote.
Guevara replied less than one minute later with three letters to confirm he was on board. The controversial 31-year-old grappler included a backstage photo from Collision in late September:
"LFG!!," Sammy Guevara wrote with the photo below.
Rhodes and Guevara have never faced The Young Bucks in tag team action, but the December 4, 2019, Dynamite opened with Dustin and The Bucks defeating Guevara, Santana, and Ortiz. Rhodes also holds the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship with The Von Erichs.
AEW stars set for major multi-promotion event
The Young Bucks are returning to Japan. All Elite Wrestling's current World Tag Team Champions made their names working for promotions around the world, including Japanese promotions NJPW, Dragon Gate, and DDT Pro.
The Bucks are the first names to be confirmed for Wrestle Dynasty on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at the Tokyo Dome. The event is being co-promoted by NJPW, AEW, ROH, Stardom, and CMLL, and will take place the night after NJPW's big Wrestle Kingdom 19 event at the same venue.
NJPW has not announced Wrestle Dynasty opponents for Matt and Nick. The pay-per-view will mark the EVPs' first match in Japan since Wrestle Kingdom 13 in 2019 when they left to help launch AEW in the United States. The Bucks participated in a three-way match, which saw Tama Tonga and Tonga Loa drop the IWGP Tag Team Championship to EVIL and SANADA.
