A top AEW star seemingly had backstage heat for not performing for a major promotion. The star being discussed is Sammy Guevara.

The Spanish God recently returned to Tony Khan's other promotion, ROH. Sammy was suspended from the company after failing to follow concussion protocols during his bout against Jeff Hardy in February. Although the suspension was lifted a few months ago, he returned recently. In 2022, Sammy and his wife, Tay Melo, held the AAA Mixed Tag Team Championship.

AAA producer Konnan has discussed his issues with Tony Khan multiple times. The duo seemingly have many issues with each other, as Tony prefers to work with CMLL over AAA.

While speaking on Keeping It 100 OFFICIAL, the WCW veteran discussed the alleged heat Sammy Guevara received after he chose to work for AAA instead of CMLL.

"We've been good friends for a while. I don't even know how that story got out because he privately told me he wanted to come to AAA and he had heat because he had the tag team championships with his wife and he no-showed three TVs. I was like 'Bro, you got mega f**king heat here right now. You gotta let the s**t to calm down'. I don't know maybe he told Tony, 'Hey I don't wanna work with CMLL, I would rather work with AAA' and he got heat. I don't think he would tell him that, you know he would be that dumb, you know as much as a fan that Tony is of CMLL." (57:47 - 58:28)

Konnan believes it is hard to deal with AEW

AAA and AEW occasionally do crossovers and book their stars in the other promotions.

The WCW veteran recently confessed that dealing with the company is difficult because AEW is expensive and tends to pull stars out of the blue.

"We’ve been selling out everywhere. We don’t even need AEW, and they’re expensive and it’s hard to deal with them because they pull 'em out at the last minute. I see they haven’t had that problem with Arena Mexico. Whether he’s trying to stick it up…because I don’t put over his thing or he’s just having a good business relationship and it’s easier to work with them, I have no idea," Konnan said.

It will be interesting to see when Sammy Guevara will return to Dynamite.
