AEW has dealt with a rash of injuries in 2024, and the promotion just lost a tag team specialist for the foreseeable future. Earlier today, The Workhorsemen's Anthony Henry revealed that he was injured and will undergo surgery this week.
The Workhorsemen are primarily active in AEW's sister promotion, ROH. However, Anthony Henry also frequently competes on Saturday Night Collision. His most recent match in All Elite Wrestling was a loss to Wheeler Yuta on September 12.
Henry received a big opportunity as a singles star this past Saturday when he wrestled Gabe Kidd for the NJPW STRONG Openweight Championship in ROH. Unfortunately, the Workhorseman was injured during the match. He took to X/Twitter today to let fans know that he will be out for the foreseeable future:
"I,unfortunately, have to announce that I'm out of commission for the foreseeable future. During my match with Gabe Kidd this past Saturday, I tore my left biceps off the bone. Surgery this week, and then I start the road to recovery. I am sorry to any fans I am letting down," Henry wrote.
This is the second time AEW's Anthony Henry has been injured this year
It's been a year of ups and downs for Anthony Henry. The 40-year-old, alongside his partner JD Drake, has seen some success in 2024, but the two have also suffered several defeats. On top of that, Henry was controversially released from AEW and ROH earlier this year.
Anthony Henry had broken his jaw and needed time away to recuperate. Unfortunately, he was released from his contract while he was recovering, along with several other talents, back in April. To fans, this seemed unusual and especially harsh since Tony Khan isn't known for releasing talent.
The backlash reached Khan's ears, and the All Elite Chief confirmed that he would re-hire the 40-year-old as soon as he had recovered from his broken jaw.
Khan was true to his word, and Anthony returned to action in May, but JD Drake unfortunately suffered a torn ligament soon after. With Henry now on the shelf for the foreseeable future, the future of The Workhorsemen seems uncertain.
