A major AEW figure recently opened up on his WWE debut against the legendary Kurt Angle. The individual in question is none other than Taz.

The Human Suplex Machine is held in high regard throughout the wrestling world for his work in ECW, WWE, and TNA. Currently, Taz works in AEW as a commentator on the promotion's flagship show, Wednesday Night Dynamite, besides calling the action on pay-per-views. Viewers of All Elite Wrestling are also familiar with his son, HOOK, who is one of the Tony Khan-led company's most promising up-and-comers.

Recently, on X/Twitter, a fan asked Taz how excited he felt when making his WWE debut at Royal Rumble 2000 and whether he had been nervous during the appearance.

The 56-year-old veteran responded that he had been thrilled about debuting in WWE in his hometown of New York City. Royal Rumble 2000 was hosted in the iconic Madison Square Garden and featured Taz wrestling and dominantly submitting Kurt Angle.

"Oh, I was extremely excited, especially the wrestling/debut in my hometown. But it wasn't a nervousness... I kind of felt the same way I always did before all my matches. But it was definitely very exciting & a memory I won't forget!" wrote Taz.

AEW announcer Taz commented on an old WWE dark match featuring major names

Earlier this month, an X/Twitter user shared footage of a dark match ahead of WWE RAW from 2002. The bout pitted the Taz and Spike Dudley team against then-rising stars Brock Lesnar and Batista (at the time known by the ring name Leviathan).

When another fan asked the AEW announcer for his comments on facing The Animal and The Beast Incarnate before their television debuts, Taz claimed that talent who regularly appeared on television would frequently work with young and budding wrestlers in dark matches. He also praised Lesnar and Batista for their accomplishments in the business.

"This basically used to happen every week many years ago… there’s lots of matches you guys don’t know about, lol! Talent that was on TV regularly that had lots of experience, would go against younger newer talent in dark matches. It was a normal thing. Obviously, those two big dudes became gigantic stars… I’ve always liked both of them a lot, i’m very happy for both of their successes," the veteran posted.

Fans will surely be looking forward to Taz's commentary on AEW Dynamite this Wednesday.
