The former WWE Champion, CM Punk, could help bring a former AEW World Champion back to the Stamford-based promotion. Punk has been a longtime friend of the star, and they wrestled each other last year.

The former AEW World Champion in the discussion is Samoa Joe. The Samoan Submission Machine has not been on TV for the past few months. He last competed on an episode of Dynamite in July 2024, where he was defeated by Chris Jericho in a Stampede Street Fight. Joe has been busy with other endeavors in the meantime.

Amid his absence, some fans on the internet are speculating about Joe's return to WWE thanks to CM Punk. The Second City Saint has often mentioned Joe on social media and public platforms amid his absence from AEW television. Currently, Joe is involved with multiple mainstream projects, but his contract status remains undisclosed.

Joe was released from the WWE back in 2022, but even after his AEW debut in 2022, he didn't rule out the possibility of a return to the Stamford-based promotion in the future. Furthermore, Punk might be able to convince Joe to return, as the two have been longtime friends since their days together in ROH.

Interestingly, Punk's last match in AEW happened to be against Samoa Joe at the All In event last year. It will be interesting to see if the two legends will share the squared circle again.

CM Punk is reportedly out for a few months

After his victory in a brutal Hell in a Cell match against Drew McIntyre at Bad Blood and the conclusion of their feud, CM Punk came out on RAW saying goodbye to the fans, referring to his uncertain future. Meanwhile, a recent report suggests that the Second City Saint is "penciled" for the Survivor Series 2024 PLE.

On his way out, Punk also had a faceoff with Seth Rollins. Only time will tell when the Best in the World will be back on TV.
