When The Young and the Restless episode aired on September 26, 2024, shocked fans witnessed Sharon (Sharon Case) find Heather’s (Vail Bloom) lifeless body on the floor in the Romalottis' apartment.

Immediately, we had a Genoa City murder mystery. Was Heather really dead? And if so, how did she die? As usual, the show isn’t revealing information about a cast member’s status.

What did Sharon do on The Young and the Restless?

Sharon intended to kill Daniel (Michael Graziadei). She brought a bottle of poison and her sidekick, the ghost of Cameron Kirsten (Linden Ashby), a vision she manifested to represent her own thoughts.

Sharon poisoned a bottle of whiskey but had second thoughts. As he lived with Heather and Lucy (Lily Brooks O'Briant), there was no guarantee that Daniel would be the one to drink it. Panicked, Sharon poured out the bottle and tried to leave, but Heather was just coming home.

That’s where things get murky. Heather demanded to know why Sharon was there. She knew Sharon needed professional help and tried to call the police. Heather and Sharon physically struggled, and Heather was clearly afraid.

But then, Sharon’s vision went blurry. When she awoke on the Romalottis' couch, Heather’s dead body was on the floor behind her. The only visible sign of trauma was that she was bleeding from the back of her head. Sharon wrapped up the body, took all the evidence, and dumped Heather’s body in the river.

But are all the clues really gone?

A Genoa City murder mystery

There are only two possibilities: Heather is either really dead, or she isn’t. Let’s consider the latter option first.

Sharon has been having nightmares for months. Most of them were of Cameron Kirsten, a man she killed. More recently, she dreamed that Daniel appeared at her motel room door and collapsed in her arms. In the dream, he was bleeding out of the back of his head.

Sharon has bipolar disorder, and since the change in her medications earlier this year, she has been spiraling. She has been hallucinating and talking to people she believes are really there in front of her. Sharon has had everything from arguments to affection with Cameron, Cassie (Camryn Grimes), and even Nick (Joshua Morrow).

It is possible that the entire time at the Romalottis' apartment was just one of Sharon’s dreams or hallucinations. In her mental state at the time, she could have believed she experienced all of it. She may have wrapped up another object in the home and tossed it over the bridge, believing it was Heather, but it was not.

The clues of Heather’s death on The Young and the Restless

If Heather really is dead, that’s a whole other mystery. Sharon has no recollection of what happened between her initial struggle with Heather and waking up to find her dead. In that case, she would have actually disposed of the body and collected all the evidence in an overnight bag that she took with her.

However, Sharon did not dump the bag into the river. She had it in the back of her van, and it’s still there. What we saw her put in the bag were bloody towels, the whiskey bottle, a plastic bag of broken glass, and Heather’s purse and phone.

Sharon was wearing gloves when she was the Romalottis'. The glass that she picked up should not have her fingerprints on it. If someone else killed Heather while Sharon was passed out, that evidence could help if Sharon wasn’t the killer.

Sharon had already cleaned up the glass. Heather found another piece when she came home. But when Sharon was doing a final cleanup after Heather died, she found yet another large piece of glass in plain sight. Did someone break a bottle on the back of Heather’s head and kill her?

Prior to her coming home, we last saw Heather telling Daniel that she had heard from a “buddy from law school” who told her about a job opportunity. Heather was going to the job interview, and Daniel was having dinner with his mom and sister and then picking up Lucy.

Who was the law school buddy? Did they or someone from the interview follow Heather home and try to attack her, and she wound up dead in the struggle?
