On The Young and the Restless, you either love or you hate characters; some we hate right away, but there comes a time when they do something, and in that moment, they are redeemed.
Redemption song on The Young and the Restless

The redemption of a character can be a big thing to a fan; some characters you really want to like, but their actions can be deplorable or, in some cases, unworthy of fondness. Let’s look at characters on The Young and the Restless that were almost unlikable until a certain moment, and we could see them in a new light. And in some cases, even begin rooting for them.
The conversation on the Soap Central Message Boards was about just this very thing, and the fans and viewers were weighing in on their choices and the reasons why.
“So with me it's Phyllis. I understand how she felt helpless and angry about why this happened. She is used to be the one in control, but in that situation neither her or Sharon had any control of what they went through until the end. I'm not saying I love her and I reserve the right to not like her again, but right now I feel/sympathize for her. I love how she and Sharon have become friends instead of enemies because of what they went through - together. For you, what character(s) has gone through something or done something to change how you felt about them?” — dedicatedsoaper
“For me it is Victoria I really did not like Victoria but after Ashland and then when they found Claire they softened her and made her likeable.” — henyvo02
“For me the first person to come to mind is Sally. Way back when she first came on the show, she bugged me. But when she began her relationship with Adam and the way she was with Connor impressed me. Showed her heart.” — Mermaid777
“I thoroughly disliked Audra in the beginning, when she tried to come between Noah and Allie, and was rolling around in the sheets with married Kyle.
Now I admire her Chutzpah, her seductive powers, and survivor skills. She is taking on what is still a man's world and thriving. I would like to see her win vs Victor and Kyle both.” — Rubythroat1
“I'll go way back and say Michael! He had a true redemption story where he was properly punished for his crimes and worked his way to being who and where he is today. I love that he never went goody-two shoes, either and is still a grey character. They don't do redemption arcs like they used to.” — BrAk5742
Audra Charles and why we like her now

Audra may be the best, most recent example; she began just awful and ruthless, right? But now we get to see a softer and even vulnerable side to her. The moment in a hotel room, we all thought Audra (Zuleyka Silver) and Nate (Sean Dominic) were about to have a romp on the bed, and instead Nate took Audra to the mirror and said words of encouragement and despite her trying to fight it, Audra showed a rare look into who she is and why she is the way she is. Moments like these are why we watch, often a character we perceive as a villain of sorts has proper motivation to be that way. We all love a good redemption story. Will Audra stop being the ruthless one? Never. We need her to be that person, but she’s far more likable now with more depth.
Who have you cast shade at on the show, only to have them win you over? I’d love to know your thoughts below in the comments.
