The Young and the Restless: Why Allison Lanier needs to return as Summer Newman right now

The Young and the Restless reminded us of the bond between Kyle and Summer, his ex-wife, played by Allison Lanier, when Kyle placed a call to his former spouse. He's not going to ask her to intervene with her grandfather, Victor, who has a vendetta to destroy Jack. But should he? We think now is the perfect time for Summer to come back to Genoa City.

Summer left town earlier this year to take a job at Marchetti, a division of Jabot Cosmetics, earlier this year. We got the impression that Summer was open to a reconciliation with Kyle (Michael Mealor), but he was pretty much fixated on Claire (Hayley Erin) at the time.

Much has changed since Summer moved to Italy. Kyle and Claire have split, but they did recently agree to an alliance of sorts because of their mutual dislike of Audra Charles (Zuleyka Silver).

Still, if Kyle is truly hoping to make Claire want him back, he's going to have to do one of a few different things. One avenue he could take is to try to make Claire jealous. But what if Kyle and Summer were to fall for one another for real? One of the big problems in their relationship was Summer's uneasiness around Claire. What did they really know about Claire, who claimed to have reformed after attacking the Newmans because of Aunt Jordan's (Colleen Zenk) brainwashing? Summer's a bit too classy to do an "I told you so" dance, but Claire has broken Kyle's heart.

Diane (Susan Walters) and Kyle have agreed that using Summer to try to influence Victor (Eric Braeden) would be a bad idea. Why put the young woman's relationship with her grandfather at risk? Should they rethink that train of thought?

Summer could point out to Victor that all the hard work she's done at Marchetti could be put in jeopardy if Victor were to destroy Jabot Cosmetics. Victor adores Summer, and he might be hard-pressed to come up with a reason for doing what he's doing to Jack Abbott if she were to make a plea for Kyle's father.

But what if there was a connection between the Abbotts and the Newmans that would give Victor a reason to rethink his plan? Sure, there's Abby (Melissa Ordway), but Victor, curiously, hasn't been influenced by how this war affects her. If Kyle and Summer were to retie the knot, Victor might have to examine that by hurting Kyle's father, he's also hurting Summer.
