Vincent Irizarry became an instant soap opera sensation when he debuted as Lujack over 40 years ago on Guiding Light. The actor, who has gone on to success on other soaps, including Days of our Lives as Deimos and The Young and the Restless as David Chow, is sharing news of a deep personal loss.
The actor revealed on Instagram stories a post from a social account devoted to him that his beloved mother, Carmella "Millie" Russo Irizarry, passed away. "Yesterday morning, our beautiful mother passed away with our family surrounding her," read the post on @devoted2vincentirizarry. "We are planning a celebration of life and memorial service to be held in New York tentatively sometime in July. Thank you for all the prayers love and support. We are blessed for the gift she was to us."
Carmella Irizarry's obituary, on Scott Huskins Funeral & Cremation Services, read, in part, "Millie was an extremely proud and loving mother of her six children, Frankie, Tracy, Vince, Michael, Tina, and Audra, whom she loved unconditionally with no limits, which was extended lovingly to their spouses, Linda, Peter, Donna, Ken, and Alec."
Carmella was born on September 1, 1937, on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. There, she met the love of her life when she was merely 9 years old. She and Frank Irizarry were wed on March 4, 1955. They were married for 70 years.
The obituary also noted Carmella adoring her 13 grandchildren, whose names are Ash, Siena, Amanda, Kristen, Dylan, Kathryn, Aria, Colin, Natalie, Jonathan, Elias, Sofia, and Ava, as well as her four great-grandchildren, Areli, Zara, Arden, and Ander.
The loving tribute to Carmella stated that her greatest legacy is her "beautiful face, and bright smile, her devout faith, along with the immense love she had for and shared with her family and friends."
Irizarry is also known for playing All My Children's Dr. David Hayward, the role he won the Daytime Emmy for in the category of Outstanding Supporting Actor in 2009. He also appeared as Dr. Jordan Armstrong on The Bold and the Beautiful. The actor's primetime credits include the 1990 mini-series Lucky Chances in which he played Gino Santangelo, Homeland, and NCIS: Los Angeles. Like many daytime stars, the actor did a turn on Beverly Hills 90210. He played Riggs for three episodes.
Last summer, Irizarry reunited with cast members from Santa Barbara. On that show, he played the part of Dr. Scott Clark from 1987-89.
Soap Central sends sincere condolences to Irizarry and his family at this difficult time.
