The Young and the Restless alum Sean Carrigan is making an appearance on one of network TV's hottest series -- Matlock. Carrigan's character, Stitch, ran into some trouble with the law after he kidnapped a pregnant Mariah. Will his Matlock character require the services of Kathy Bates' character, Mattie?

The Young and the Restless star's bucket list

Carrigan, who plays Phil, is set to appear in the Thursday, December 11, episode of Matlock. The episode is titled “Call It a Christmas Gift.” The summary/teaser for the show reads: "With the holidays approaching, the team’s secrets start to come to light while they take on a harassment case involving the city’s fire department. Meanwhile, Matty (Kathy Bates, who played Belle Bodelle on All My Children) and Edwin (Sam Anderson) contemplate meeting Joey’s (Niko Nicotera) sister."

Unlike the Andy Griffith series Matlock, which aired from the 1980s and early 1990s, this modern-day version uses the title only, and in a very clever way. Bates's character, Madeline "Matty" Matlock, plays a seemingly down-on-her-luck retiree forced back into law, which is a cover for her true identity as a wealthy and grieving mother.

Matty's secret goal is to work at the powerful law firm Jacobson Moore to find the individual(s) who buried evidence that could have exposed a drug company's role in the opioid crisis, which she believes led to her daughter's death. She maintains her facade while secretly using her resources and skills to investigate, a deception that creates suspense and drama in her "cases of the week."

At the end of last season, viewers discovered that it was Julian (Jason Ritter) who sat on the evidence that inadvertently led to the death of Mattie's daughter. This season, Matty has been working with Olympia (Skye P. Marshall), Julian's ex. (They attempted to reconcile, but that fell apart after he confessed that he'd cheated on her.)

Carrigan joined the CBS soap in 2013 as Dr. Ben "Stitch" Rayburn, an armed forces buddy of Dylan's (Steve Burton). Stitch shared some romances in Genoa City with Ashley (Eileen Davidson) and Victoria (Amelia Heinle) before finding a more lasting love with Abby (Melissa Ordway).

Alas, the couple's union didn't survive after Abby miscarried their child. Stitch's son, Max (Jared Breeze), from a previous relationship, blamed Abby for his mother's death, and he caused her to fall, resulting in her miscarriage. Abby and Stitch's marriage didn't survive.

Stitch returned to Genoa City a few years later, a bit unbalanced. He kidnapped a pregnant Mariah in some kind of misguided attempt to later be revealed as a hero if he were the one to rescue her. Stitch broke down and confessed, but he left town before he was captured, and he hasn't been seen since.
