In an exclusive clip of next week’s episode of the CBS podcast, Soapy hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart, legendary soap star Melody Thomas Scott joins the hosts to talk about her career in television and film, including, of course, The Young and the Restless.
The Y&R actress tells a fascinating story about how she almost got an incredible break at a very young age. Almost, because she got the offer — and shrugged it off. Knowing that one of Thomas Scott’s biggest idols was Lucille Ball, he wondered if she ever got to meet the iconic comedienne. “We never did,” Thomas Scott shares. However, she came close.
Thomas Scott recalls going to a hot dog stand behind the old Sears-Roebuck in L.A. when she was six years old with her grandmother. A man with a Desilu ball cap had come in, and in conversation, her grandma told him that Thomas Scott was a “working kid” in the industry. It turned out that he was a talent scout who approached Thomas Scott and talked to her for a little while.
Thomas Scott remembers being quite “blasé” about the whole thing, but then the man asked, “How would you like to work with Lucille Ball?” Even though she was a Lucille Ball fan at six years old, she inexplicably replied, “No, thank you.” With that, she walked away with her hot dog — and to this day has no idea what she was thinking at the time, or what she passed up.
