Kate Linder: The Young and the Restless to delve into Esther Valentine's history

Kate Linder teases that The Young and the Restless plans to revisit some classic Esther Valentine moments: "There's some great stuff coming up!"

Longtime The Young and the Restless star Kate Linder, who is currently celebrating her 40th anniversary of playing Esther Valentine, reveals that the CBS soap opera has plans to delve into her alter ego's history.

"I can't tell you what's going to happen, but in a while, they're going to be revisiting some of Ether's history," she shares in an interview on The Locher Room. "So, [you] can't miss that. I don't want to miss that, either!"

Though Linder doesn't reveal exactly which moments from Esther's history might be reexplored, she does touch on a couple of storylines she feels were important.

"The reason The Young and the Restless is number one, I feel, is because they deal with real-life situations," she explains. "Like, Esther was a single mother, and then Chloe, whose real name is Kate, she changed her name, because she was embarrassed about her mother; her mother was a maid, and she didn't like that."

Linder says that the special Esther material hasn't been taped yet, but "it's coming up, and I'm excited about that. There's some great stuff coming up."

As for the actress' wishes for Esther's future, Linder recently told Soap Central she has a few ideas in mind.

"Esther's romances and marriages have never worked out, but you never know -- she can still turn things around!" the actress joked. "I've also thought it would be interesting to have Esther involved in Chancellor Industries because I'm sure she could manage to get into a lot of trouble there!"
