In a social media post that has fans super excited and proud, Camryn Grimes (Mariah Copeland, The Young and the Restless) came out as a bisexual woman.
The Young and the Restless' Camryn Grimes (Mariah Copeland) just took a big step on social media by coming out as a bisexual woman. The actress, whose soap opera alter ego is in a lesbian relationship, revealed the news in a Twitter conversation and says her recent self-discovery "just clicked."
It all started when, following the news that actress Ruby Rose had left the title role on the CW's Batwoman, Grimes let her followers know that she would love to play the iconic character -- the first openly gay lead on a superhero show. However, given that the show's producers have said that they are "firmly committed" to the show's "long-term" future and would recast the role with another member of the LGBTQ community, fans weren't sure if it would work.
"As AMAZING as this would be and as much as I support this idea, I think they're looking for an out LGBT actress for the role," shared one fan on Grimes's post, to which the actress responded with the simple comment, "I'm bisexual."

Immediately after Grimes's admission, another follower asked, "Did you just... come out?!!... Proud!!!" And she confirmed with, "Yea, pretty sure I did. Lol." Grimes then went on to explain, "My bf is bisexual and it was during conversations with him that it just clicked. Honestly feel stupid I didn't come to the conclusion sooner lol."
As Y&R fans know, Grimes is half of the front-burner romance between Mariah and Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks), an extremely popular pairing that just survived a cheating scandal. The fictional couple is the first lesbian coupling that has taken center stage on the CBS soap opera, and Grimes is extremely proud to be a part of it.
"It's amazing... Cait and I are always talking about what we're showing people and making sure it looks and, more importantly, feels authentic. We know how much it matters. Representation matters. The popularity is a reflection of the progress," she said last year. "Soaps are a reflection of our times and society -- or at least they should be. When you move with your audience every day, day in and day out, that's what you need to be. You need to be addressing topical things. You need to be showing what the world looks like. And it's beautiful. And it's freaking awesome. It's love. That's my opinion."
Grimes began her Y&R stint in 1997, when she took on the character of Cassie Newman. She was written off the show in 2005, when Cassie died from injuries sustained in a car crash. Grimes returned to the show as Cassie's twin sister, Mariah, in 2014.
